How Internet Censorship Works

Filed under: New Web Proxies 2013 — admin @ Saturday 21st January 2017

Internet has revolutionized the manner in which solutions and options were sought. Today every possible answer to our daily lives, personal or professional lives is just a click away. With this freedom though there is a lot of unwanted information as well which is in the form of;

  1. Pornography

  2. Hate speech etc.

which is dangerous for the unsuitable ages. The parents who would like to restrict the access of the internet content for their children can opt for home censorship through the available hardware and software options, which block the access to the undesirable or unsuitable sites on the internet.  Through these multiple filters the parents can block the social media or any other type of website they are not comfortable about providing access to their children. Other than the personal users of the computer, the internet censorship is also a requirement in the workplaces as well, where the corporations will be required to limit the internet access of their employees. There are countless reasons for this approach which include;

  1. Increase in productivity

  2. Curbing distraction

  3. Curbing communication

  4. Reducing harassment etc.

The corporations and the workplaces of the varying sizes use multiple tools when it comes to managing their internet censorship. While some rely on the hardware and the software options other make use of the firewalls. When an employee tries to access any website that is blocked or restricted, they will be unable to do so and also receive a notification from the network administrator. The network administrator can however change the firewall settings according to the requirement of the different employees.

Yet another type of popular internet censorship is the search engine censorship. The result pages of the search engines are self-censored. This is vital for the search engines to be able to generate relevant results according to the search query provided by the seeker. Apart from all this some of the countries also have stringent internet censorship policies. Some of the listed countries of the world that have strict internet censorship laws include;

  1. China

  2. Egypt

  3. Myanmar

  4. Saudi Arabia

  5. Syria

  6. Tunisia

  7. Uzbekistan

  8. Vietnam etc.

These countries have limited the amount and content of internet information that can be shared or accessed through the World Wide Web. The web filtering of the countries can be grouped into four categories namely;

  1. Political – this includes content which is in contrast to a country’s policies or issues concerning social causes and human rights etc.

  2. Social – this includes content which concerns drugs, sexuality and gambling or issues that a nation finds offensive etc.

  3. Conflict/Security – this includes content which is related to aggression, war etc.

  4. Internet tools – this includes virtual communication tools and modes along with language translation applications etc.

There is an ongoing debate about the censorship of content on the World Wide Web. While there are countless entities pushing the companies and countries to allow access there are others that focus on the benefits of limited access of information through internet.

Facebook Proxy | Youtube Proxy | Twitter Proxy | Instagram Proxy |2016 New Proxies

Internet Censorship is a very bad thing. It is the act of denying someone rights to access
a certain website or place on the Internet. Many providers from many different countries
have been ruled by the court system to block many different sites, for example, the United
Kingdom blocked access to the Pirate Bay, which has made many people angry. Some
countries censor sites for good upon their own country, like China. China blocks sites like
YouTube, Facebook, Yahoo!, and even sites that are useful to the people who go to it, for
example, Google Drive. Although, they have blocked the Pirate Bay in the past, in 2012, they
unlocked it and do not censor it constantly anymore.

China blocks many social media sites, because they think that people will say bad things
about the government. They also block many proxies that would allow citizens to get
through their firewall. Many people in China are angry because of China blocking all of these
sites, but however China isn’t the only country that blocks sites like Facebook. A few others
that do this are North Korea, Cuba, and Iran. North Korea is no big surprise, since they are
basically cut off from the entire world and they have thoughts about the United States being
an evil country.

The reason many of these sites are blocked in communist countries are that people will
share what is going on within the country, which necessarily doesn’t always go public on the
news, and might possibly keep that happening, and then every other country would be an
enemy against them. They block the sites so almost no-one can news out, and if you try to
do that in some countries, like China, you will likely be thrown in prison for the rest of your
life, or killed.

Anonymous, a hacker group believes that anyone should be able to visit any site, any time.
They had threatened to call a fight for action against it, which many people followed their
ways. Some of the actions they despised of in the United States were SOPA, PIPA, and the
OPEN act. These acts were going to limit what you could and couldn’t do on the web.

Proxies may not always work in an anonymous situation, because that country may set
up a fake proxy just to collect data about the users attempting to get access to Facebook,
YouTube, Twitter, etc. Anonymity hardly ever goes without some sort of tracking, even if the
country doesn’t own the proxy. The company that owns that proxy may log who comes on,
and where they visit.

Countries censoring or blocking sites is a very horrible thing to do, because it does not allow
anyone to have their freedom of speech, even though many countries do not have that, I
believe that anyone should be allowed to visit any website they would like to. Freedom of
speech is a very important right in the United States of America, and many countries should
follow in their path if their citizens do not have that right.
